The Lawyers in Conflict & Transition team is organising a panel at the annual ASC conference in San Francisco (19-22 November 2014).
It will include discussions on: the role of lawyers in civil society movements; how lawyers have shaped local and international understandings of the ‘rule of law; the extent to which the sociology of lawyering is different or ‘exceptional’ in conflicted or transitional contexts compared to settled democracies; and the role of law and lawyers in the Palestinian prisoners’ movement.
Kieran McEvoy and Louise Mallinder will be joined by Alyssa Bernstein, a PhD student at QUB who is co-authoring one or our local policy outputs on the boycott of legal proceedings, and Dr Ron Dudai, our project consultant for Israel.
